2008 Communicate with Confidence

CWC is an NAIW program designed to give you the tools necessary to communicate effectively in any situation, whether at work, in community involvement, personal communications or NAIW Functions. It will increase your self-confidence, improve on the job oral communications, control nervousness, help you to think clearly under pressure and improve the art of listening.

SFCNAIW SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM - It occurred to me that some of our newer members may not be aware of the fact that our local Association sponsors a scholarship program, since I haven't made a presentation at one of our meeting recently. This is administered by the Insurance Educational Association. It is a trust fund established back in 1986 with proceeds made when S.F. hosted the 1977 National Convention. We had originally established a trust fund thru the Golden Gate University, but they basically did nothing with it, so we transferred it to the I.E.A. for handling for us. The initial amount is held in trust, with only the interest used for scholarships. As all of you know interest isn't much these days - certainly not what it was when the trust fund was established and thru the 1990's, so they don't have as much to work with as we would like. In fact, I.E.A. has been subsidizing some monies from their own general funds in granting scholarships in our name. To date over $17,000.00 has been paid to those beneficiaries of the fund. I.E.A. uses it primarily for their Workers' Compensation courses. The applicant must show financial need and have no tuition paid by their employer. I might add that the applicant does not need to be a member of NAIW to qualify, but they do need to reside in Northern California including the Bay Area, Sacramento or Fresno areas. If you or anyone you know would be interested in more details on this, please contact me. - M. "Sandy" Dameron, CPIW - Chairman
Congratulations! - Our President, Anna Vaage, was awarded the first ever Region VIII Young Professionals Award - Congratulations, Anna! Please read the write-up (on page 4 of the May issue of Cover Notes) from Tish Riley from the presentation at the Region VIII Meeting in April.
